The family wanted a covered external space to be used for everyday living. This space should be used to organize all the social life of the house. The Brazilian tropical climate suggests ample use of these solutions in vernacular as well as in modern architecture. Beginning from the colonial, Brazilian architecture has usually incorporated a space that was known as the veranda. Verandas are covered linear spaces in front of the living room and bedrooms which act as the intermediary between the interior and exterior.

Marcio Kogan Architecttablonerohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12644163580182300690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14875812.post-31555756278566833002010-05-27T10:49:00.003-03:002010-05-27T10:58:52.583-03:00BMW Welt, Munich

A structure with flexible and transparent rooms: In December 2001, following in-depth debates, the board of the BMW AG has voted in favour of the architectural concept by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU. The outstanding concept of the BMW Welt is characterised very much by the unique roof structure and the so-called Double Cone.

The 16,000 m² of cloud roof which emanates from the forming Double Cone is only carried by twelve hinged columns and creates the impression that it is floating. In its basic system, it consists of an upper and a lower girder grillage with a basic grid of five by five metres. Between the layers, diagonal struts are inserted which link the two layers of girder grillage, hereby creating a spatial supporting structure.

The Double Cone which protrudes prominently from the entire building acts as a powerful and dynamic eye-catcher. The cyclone made of glass and steel, winding upwards, ending in the roof which is suspended freely, floating just like a cloud, is created by a dynamic deformation of the two girder layers and constitutes one of the main supporting points of the roof.

BMW Welt

Pascual Arquitectos

Architype REVIEW tablonerohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12644163580182300690noreply@blogger.com38tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14875812.post-39871289434974332732009-01-21T06:17:00.003-02:002009-01-21T06:27:02.220-02:00DR Concert Hall by Jean Nouvel<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 380px; height: 248px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXKwcsqAYx_3cgGAlopTcQC6i_fQEh5HxQTgFk6iKdoO_s2BgL20zIOIp0Gd0xpthr7cmSNVxmVEdhJ0ZNo4mWIysodR5SnCKw7KD6i3ufLLKiZwgH87uT1Hk-A2VU4NjwEKsj_A/s400/sec.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293660250212227250" />

On January 17th the new DR Concert Hall was open to public. The complex is a part of the TV network’s new Headquarters in Copenhagen and contains all facilities for Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s music production.

When presenting his work for the press, Jean Nouvel said:

“The first idea for the building was the concept of the blue screen, a kind of lantern magic, because of the exceptional situation of the urban condition being a new development. I try to be a contextual architect and generally like to have a dialogue with my neighbors, but in this new urban situation I did not know my neighbors. So I tried to think about myself an an architect in the 11th century who had to build a Cathedral in a city in Europe, and how the buildings then happened around the Cathedral. This was possible because this is probably the largest and most public building here.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 380px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFYSYd1flGO5keGsDAzYfhai9I-98ImARVk_dbzhxGpaYjHmSvzV_bV9lY6WqZDB1Iazsa-_fOgFy85ln_17Zz_2ifbZbKnGwpI165N0tH8eQZ4QrsXJW_whGXwNE7Jm-yFtKc-Q/s400/ext.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293660485242184818" />

The idea after was to create a kind of question “What is this building?”
When you see the building during the day you have a kind of feeling for what is behind the screen, but not really, and it changes a lot with the light. When the sun is lower you see the skyline of the building inside and the framing of the glass facade behind the screen. It is a paradox between a very simple building, and you feel that inside, but you don’t really know what is there, only that it is complex. So it is this relationship between simplicity and complexity that is the base of the design.
So the idea was to create a kind of small world belonging to the Concert Hall with a lot of specific singular details, materials and spaces, so when you open a door from one studio to another it is always a new feeling, a new ambience.
That is really the basic architectural idea of the building.”

Revista Architecture Australia

Revista australian-architects

McBride Charles Ryan — architecture & interior design tablonerohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12644163580182300690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14875812.post-38910551187325276762008-12-29T06:10:00.003-02:002008-12-29T06:19:39.262-02:00Okurayama Apartments, Tokio, Kazuyo Sejima<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bjbLLlpsrpRolhIKM9PTHybbU8nFX4zWID-TsnAyCvHqH4SlG_NT0yBr-d6oTFyQiQ6bQ74ya_3jvt6NsQonZBmCjGLqVGXjyN0_kEdxrFCrGTqR46v6swRekRh7d56rDH7yBw/s400/SANAA-Okurayama-6948.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285121605949948850" />

PERUARKI, arquitectura y diseñotablonerohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12644163580182300690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14875812.post-29477494530323366042008-02-23T22:25:00.003-02:002008-02-23T22:55:28.787-02:00Boston convention & exhibition center

Un diseño espectacular para un edificio icónico.
